We both work and would have no problem keeping up our rent. We can afford up to $500/month. We have no pets, although we are comfortable with our roommate(s) having a pet or two. We have no kids and prefer that our roommate(s) have none. But, if the perfect roommate(s) have a kid, that's fine with us.
